Whether you manage one lab or oversee multiple sites, VaLogic is your trusted partner for hood certifications that are essential for safe, compliant workflows.

What We Certify: Comprehensive Hood Testing Services

We offer complete performance testing and certification services for all major laboratory hoods—chemical fume hoods, laminar flow hoods, and biosafety cabinets. Each type of equipment plays a different role in safety and compliance, and we test them all according to the latest industry standards.

Chemical Fume Hoods

Chemical fume hoods are designed to protect lab personnel from hazardous fumes, vapors, and air particles. These ventilated, enclosed workstations use exhaust fans to trap and pull contaminants away from the user and into the atmosphere.

Fume hoods allow employees to work with volatile substances like corrosive acids, toxic gases, flammable solvents, and reactive materials. They’re an essential feature in any chemical processing lab, university research facility, or pharmaceutical development center.

To maintain effectiveness and remain compliant with OSHA and ASHRAE 110 standards, fume hoods should be tested annually or anytime they’re moved, modified, or repaired.

VaLogic’s certification includes:

  • Face velocity testing to ensure consistent airflow
  • Smoke visualization for containment verification
  • ASHRAE 110 tracer gas testing to evaluate performance under real-world conditions
  • Sash movement and alarm functionality checks to confirm operational integrity

Laminar Flow Hoods (Clean Benches)

Laminar flow hoods, also known as clean benches, are ideal for processes that require clean environments but involve non-hazardous materials. This type of hood protects your products from contamination with HEPA air filters and unidirectional airflow, pushing particles vertically or horizontally away from the work area.

Common applications include aseptic media preparation, electronics assembly, tissue culture work, and other sterile operations. Laminar flow hoods do not protect lab personnel or the surrounding area, only the product inside the hood.

We recommend clean bench testing and certification on an annual basis, or sooner if filters are changed or units are relocated. Our tests include:

  • HEPA filter integrity testing to detect leaks or damage
  • Airflow velocity and uniformity checks to confirm consistent protection
  • Particle count testing to verify ISO-class cleanliness levels

Biosafety Cabinets (BSCs)

Biosafety cabinets are designed to contain and filter biological hazards such as microorganisms, biotoxins, and other infectious materials. Used widely in infectious disease labs, hospital settings, and high-containment facilities, BSCs protect personnel, the environment, and the products being handled.

Biosafety cabinets fall into three categories: Class I, II, and III

  • Class I: Protects the user and environment, but not the product.
  • Class II: Protects the user, environment, and product. Appropriate for low-to-moderate risk biological agents.
  • Class III: Protects the user, environment, and product. Class III BSCs are air-tight enclosures designed to handle high-risk biological agents.

BSC testing and certification should be completed every 6 to 12 months, as well as after maintenance or relocation.

VaLogic’s BSC testing meets NSF/ANSI 49 standards and includes:

  • HEPA filter integrity and leak testing
  • Inflow and downflow velocity checks
  • Smoke pattern testing
  • Alarm and system functionality checks
  • Viable and non-viable particulate testing
  • Light and sound level testing
